Upper Blepharoplasty
Upper Blepharoplasty (Upper Eyelid Surgery) is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and, when necessary, excess fat from the upper eyelids. As one of the earliest signs of facial aging, drooping upper eyelids can create a tired appearance and, in some cases, interfere with vision. The procedure restores a refreshed, youthful look while maintaining the natural shape of the eyes.
About the Procedure
Upper blepharoplasty is commonly recommended for patients in their forties or older who have excess upper eyelid skin, although some patients may benefit at a younger age. During the consultation, the eyelids, eyebrow position, eye socket, and surrounding tissues are carefully evaluated to determine the most appropriate treatment.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and usually takes about 30 minutes. A carefully placed incision is hidden within the natural eyelid crease, allowing excess skin and, if necessary, small fat pockets to be removed. In selected cases, the eyelid lifting muscle may also be repositioned to improve eyelid function and create a more open, refreshed appearance.
Recovery & Possible Complications
Upper blepharoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home the same day. Fine sutures are typically removed after 5–7 days.
The incision is well concealed within the natural eyelid crease and becomes barely noticeable as healing progresses. Mild swelling and bruising are common during the first few days and gradually resolve.
Complications are uncommon when the procedure is performed by an experienced surgeon. Most patients enjoy a brighter, more youthful appearance with natural-looking, long-lasting results.
